Community Development Fund is nominated as the Principal Recipient (PR) of funds for Round 9 TB program of the Global Fund against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
The overall goal of the project is to reduce the burden of TB in Kosovo by 2015 in line with the Millennium Development Goals and the Stop TB Partnership targets, aiming at strengthening diagnosis, treatment, appropriate recording and reporting system of TB in the framework of health system reform.
The Program will seek to ensure timely case detection and improve the case detection rate, as well as proper treatment of smear positive cases, continued support to patients with TB.
Health system will be strengthened through implementation of PAL strategy and involvement of all relevant care providers (both private and public sector) in the National Tuberculosis Program. The Program will create conditions to support the engagement of private and public health sectors in implementation of the Stop TB Strategy in Kosovo. Activities and consequential results are expected to have a large impact on health system strengthening in general.
With a key purpose to facilitate patient’s adherence to the tuberculosis treatment and to decrease stigma and discrimination towards TB patients, the Program involves the general population, community leaders, policy makers and journalists in advocacy, social mobilization, information and education activities.
The program has five objectives and the following activities are planned within those objectives:
• Expand and enhance high-quality DOTS
• Address TB/HIV, MDR-TB and other challenges
• Contribute to health system strengthening
• Engage all health care providers in tuberculosis care
• Empower people with TB and communities through improving their knowledge and awareness about disease.
